—RESOLUTIONS—
The
B-I-B-L-E, yes that’s the book for me! King David
wrote, “Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold
wondrous things out of thy law” (Psalm 119:18).
How often have you made resolutions to read the
Bible, but failed in your attempt before the first
week of the New Year was out? Believers are told to
“study” (II Tim 2:15), and to “search the
scriptures” (John 5:39).
David
prayed, “So teach us to number our days, that we
may apply our hearts unto wisdom” (Psalm 90:12).
If you read just three chapters of the Bible a day,
and five chapters on Sunday, you will complete the
whole Bible in exactly one year. Eight chapters
every day will complete the Bible twice in a little
over eleven months. For the really motivated, ten
chapters each day will take you through the entire
Bible three times (with eight days to spare!).
King David
also rejoiced saying, “I was glad when they said
unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord”
(Psalm 122:1). If you attend church one hour each
week, every week for seventy years without fail, you
will have given the Lord a total of only five
months. “Not forsaking the assembling of
ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but
exhorting one another: AND SO MUCH THE MORE, AS YE
SEE THE DAY APPROACHING” (Heb 10:25).
And what
about prayer? “Evening, and morning, and at noon,
will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my
voice” (Psalm 55:17). A believer can talk to God
about everything, anytime, anywhere. “Be careful
for nothing; but in everything by prayer and
supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be
made known unto God” (Phil 4:6). God wants to
start having fellowship with you this next year.
