The Christians' Identity In Christ

"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature:

old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." (II Corinthians 5:17)


Saved by grace

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God; Not of works, lest any man should boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9)

Totally forgiven without the aid of Masses, penances and indulgences

"And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath He quickened together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses." (Colossians 2:13)

Totally cleansed without the aid of Purgatory

"And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God." (I Corinthians 6:11)

"Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost." (Titus 3:5)

Totally accepted

"Wherefore receive ye one another, as Christ also received us to the glory of God." (Romans 15:7)

Freed from condemnation

"There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus." (Romans 8:1)

Completely Redeemed

Reconciled to God

"For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by His life." (Romans 5:10)

Given total access to God without the aid of priests or saints

Made at peace with God

Made into a new creation

Made into a temple of the Holy Spirit

"What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?" (I Corinthians 6:19)

Indwelt by the Holy Spirit

"But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His." (Romans 8:9)

Made children of God

"But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God." (John 1:12-13)

Adopted into God's family

"But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth His Son, made of a woman, made under the law, to redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons." (Galatians 4:4-5)

Made heirs of God

Made spiritually perfect forever

Made into a holy and royal priesthood

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of Him who hath called you out of darkness into His marvelous light." Made holy and blameless

"In the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in His sight." (Colossians 1:22)

Translated out of darkness into light

"Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son: In whom we have redemption through His blood, even the forgiveness of sins."  (Colossians 1:13-14)

Passed from death to life

Sanctified (made holy)

Safe from the wrath of God

"Much more then, being now justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him." (Romans 5:9)

Hidden with Christ in God

"For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God." (Colossians 3:3)

Clothed with Christ

"For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ." (Galatians 3:27)

Sealed in Christ

"In whom (Christ) ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise." (Ephesians 1:13)

Given Christ's righteousness

"For He hath made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him." (Il Corinthians 5:21)

"For if by one man's offense death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ." (Romans 5:17)

Chosen by God

"According as He hath chosen us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love." (Ephesians 1:4)

Born again

"Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever." (1 Peter 1:23)

In fellowship with God

"God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of His Son Jesus Christ our Lord." (I Corinthians 1:9)

"That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ." (I John 1:3)

We have been given every spiritual blessing

"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ." (Ephesians 1:3)

"According as His divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him that hath called us to glory and virtue." (Il Peter 1:3)

Freed from the law

"Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to Him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God." (Romans 7:4)

Baptized into Christ's body (the church)

"For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free and have been all made to drink into one Spirit." (1 Corinthians 12:13)

Baptized into Christ

A.   United with Him in His death.

"Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into His death_" (Romans 6:3)

"I am crucified with Christ..." (Galatians 2:20)

B.    United with Him in His resurrection.

"Therefore we are buried with Him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life." (Romans 6:4)

C.    United with Him in His ascension.

"Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved) and hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus." (Ephesians 2:5-6)
