—FREEWILL—
Calvinists say, “We don’t
choose to be saved, but God has chosen those whom he
will save according to his own sovereign will.” Or
what about this one, “Since God is a sovereign Lord
over his creation his will
cannot be overthrown. Man has no freewill.”
Hogwash!
To think that men have
a choice in every other detail of their lives, from
the food they eat to the kinds of cars they drive,
but not in the most important decision that matters
is a peculiar concept indeed. The truth is,
men overthrow the expressed will of God every day.
Christ rebuked
Jerusalem because he “would have” gathered
her people as a hen gathers her chicks, but she
“WOULD NOT!” (Matt 23:37). Peter said that God
is, “not willing that any should perish,” but
he IS willing “that all should come to
repentance.” (2 Pet 3:9) Have they repented?
God even “COMMANDETH all men everywhere to
repent.” (Acts 17:30) But, do they? Do you think
most of them will any time soon?
The clearly stated will of
God is overthrown by men morning, noon, and night.
Believers can overrule “the will of God” when
they entertain fornication (see 1 Thes 4:3), when
they are unthankful they violate the stated “the
will of God” (1 Thes 5:18).
If they refuse to obey civil
laws and ordinances, they have overthrown the
sovereign and declared “will of God” as
printed on the pages of the Holy Bible (1 Pet
2:13-15).
Jeremiah wrote, “The heart
is deceitful above all things, and desperately
wicked: who can know it?” (Jer 17:9) The
freewill of man can be a dangerous business indeed.
